    The Life and Yearnings of Ireland’s Ploughman Poet A Multipurpose Cultural Centre The self-educated poet and novelist, Patrick Kavanagh came from a humble farming background in the small village of Iniskeen, County Monaghan. His unsentimental take on rural Ireland made him the best loved Irish poet of the mid-20th Century. He explored the everyday aspects, of life, and its frustrations. His simple grave is in the churchyard in Iniskeen. A new parish churches was built in 1974, so later the old one was converted into a museum in Kavanagh’s honour. For 25 years it was sustained by enthusiastic local volunteers. It is difficult to keep a tourist attraction open all year round that is …
