Waterways Ireland Heritage ePortal
Waterways Ireland launched it new heritage engagement platform in December 2020 and it remains live at www.innovision.ie/waterwaysireland. This innovative new platform, accessible across the globe, allows individuals, non-profit groups and organisations behind key heritage projects to connect with Waterways Ireland and fosters a sense of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Created as part of the Waterways Ireland Heritage Plan 2016-2020, the platform is the first of its kind and is completely free to access and access heritage projects ranging from education, archive, virtual reality and digital media to name but a few. The platform enables users to quickly and easily interrogate a range of heritage projects using a desktop or mobile device, making them accessible and searchable worldwide. The zones included: 1. Heritage Plan zone outlining the various initiatives progressed through the organisations Heritage Plan in 2020 2. Education area with interactive games and resources 3. Archive area with digital oral histories, old scanned maps and videos 4. The Zibaldone wall - illustration developed through a student collaboration 5. Grant area with information on our heritage grant scheme and infographics on the work of our grantees in 2020 6. Corporate area where you could leave feedback on our 'What floats your Boat' wall 7. VR room where you could view our virtual reality canal environment on YouTube as well as individual VR assets extracted and showcased using SketchFab 8. The mezzanine areas where our Google Trekker imagery collected since 2017 could be viewed 9. An art deco auditorium where you could view our award winning Stories from the Waterways Developed in response to COVID19 to replace our face to face event this website has provided a lasting legacy for our stakeholders and given the digital nature allowed for a 20 fold increase in visitors
