Philips Design Tour
Studio Louter has developed the world's first Augmented Reality tour with ARKit for the Philips Museum in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The Philips Design Tour takes the visitor along nine challenges where he or she can walk around freely to discover the heritage of Philips design. Since 1891 Dutch and European households make use of the iconic Philips products and thanks to the Tour the visitor can step into the history of everyday life and experience the past in a unique way.
To open up the universe of Philips Design, Studio Louter developed the world’s first Augmented Reality Tour made with ARKit. The revolutionary ARKit enables visitors to walk around freely in a world where real and virtual elements fit together seamlessly. Contrary to previous AR technology, there is no need to keep a marker in shot. Once visitors have found a marker, they enter a scenery that shows the designer’s vision behind iconic Philips products. We wanted to show that design is much more than making a new lamp or electronic device. Designers have a sharp eye for unpractical and uncomfortable situations and invent products that help solve the problem. The Philips Design Tour reveals how designers perceive the world around them. Through interactive games, visitors explore how designers find solutions that improve people’s life.
