"The Spacio" exhibit preserving local dialect
The Batana Ecomuseum is an innovative museological concept safeguarding and promoting Rovinj’s tangible and intangible maritime heritage. One of the most remarkable phenomena of intangible heritage is the local dialect derived from Latin Vulgate, called Istro-roman or Istriot language. It was documented for the first time in Dante’s Commedia and is still spoken by few people. The “Spacio” interactive exhibit is thus dedicated to the Istriot language combined with the culture of local cuisine and canteens-public spaces used to socialize. By moving the glass on the “table” visitors activate the audio record and are able to listen the local dialect recorded in 2004 when locals gathered for the purpose.
